Shami Scripts IPL History With First-Ball Record on LSG Debut

Mohammed Shami wasted no time announcing himself at Lucknow Super Giants. First ball of his LSG debut — outswinger, thick edge, KL Rahul caught at third man. Golden duck. Ekana erupts.

It was the fifth time in IPL history that Shami has taken a wicket off the very first ball of an innings. No other bowler has managed it more than three times. He did it twice to Rahul alone.

“Mohammed Shami has taken a wicket off the first ball of an IPL innings on five occasions,” noted ESPN Cricinfo’s Sampath Bandarupalli. “No other bowler has more than three such wickets in the IPL.”

Shami crossed to LSG from Sunrisers Hyderabad in an all-cash trade worth ₹10 crore ahead of the season. Tuesday was a reminder of exactly why they paid it.

The moment was beautiful. The result was not. Delhi Capitals bowled LSG out for 141 and chased it down in 19.3 overs for a comfortable six-wicket win. Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten 70 off 47 balls was the difference. Shami’s record stands. But LSG are 0-1.
