Sai Sudharsan Topples Gayle’s 13-Year Record to Become IPL’s Fastest to 2000 Runs

Chris Gayle’s record had been sitting there since 2013. Sai Sudharsan cleared it with a six off Krunal Pandya.

The Gujarat Titans opener needed 47 innings to reach 2000 IPL runs. Gayle needed 48. A record that lasted 13 years, gone in one swing.

It came during a century against RCB at the Chinnaswamy. Sudharsan made 100 off 57 balls — 11 fours, five sixes. His third IPL ton. And he’s now the first Indian to score a century in three consecutive IPL seasons. Gayle did the same between 2011 and 2013 — the only other man to manage it.

The 23-year-old from Tamil Nadu keeps doing things that make you stop and look twice. This was another one.
