Sachin Tendulkar took Indian sport to global stage

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar played a defining role in taking Indian sport to the world stage, Apollo Tyres managing director Neeraj Kanwar said during the Bombay Sport Exchange event held in Mumbai this week. Kanwar noted that while Bollywood globalised Indian culture, Tendulkar did the same for Indian sport through his performances and global appeal.

“Bollywood took India to the world, but Sachin took Indian sport to the world,” Kanwar said, highlighting Tendulkar’s impact beyond cricket. He added that Tendulkar’s consistency and longevity, marked by 100 international centuries and over 34,000 runs, inspired generations and attracted global attention to Indian athletes.

Sports marketing experts at the event agreed that Tendulkar’s era transformed brand investment in Indian sport. “He became the first true global face of Indian athletics,” one panelist said. Tendulkar’s legacy, speakers noted, continues to influence how Indian sport is viewed and marketed worldwide.
