Sachin carried Indian sport to world stage

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar played a decisive role in taking Indian sport to the global stage, Apollo Tyres managing director Neeraj Kanwar said at the Bombay Sport Exchange event held this week in Mumbai. Kanwar explained that while Bollywood popularised Indian culture worldwide, Tendulkar achieved the same for Indian sport through his achievements and influence.
“Bollywood took India to the world, but Sachin took Indian sport to the world,” Kanwar said, crediting the former captain’s impact beyond the boundary. He noted that Tendulkar’s record 100 international centuries and more than 34,000 runs helped attract global audiences and sponsors to Indian sport.
Industry experts at the forum agreed that Tendulkar’s era transformed sports marketing in India. “He became India’s first truly global sporting icon,” one panelist said. Tendulkar’s legacy, speakers added, continues to shape how Indian sport is perceived internationally.
