Reigns retains World Heavyweight Championship, defeats Fatu in Tribal Combat at Clash in Italy
Roman Reigns successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat match at WWE Clash in Italy, held at Inalpi Arena in Torino di Sangro on May 31, 2026. The victory extended Reigns’ grip on the title he won at WrestleMania 42 by defeating CM Punk earlier this year.
The match carried stakes beyond the championship itself. Fatu had challenged Reigns specifically under Tribal Combat rules, a stipulation that placed Reigns’ standing as Tribal Chief of The Bloodline on the line. Fatu had already been defeated by Reigns at Backlash earlier in May, but that result had not settled the rivalry. The Tribal Combat format, contested without a referee’s standard ruleset, allowed both men to use weapons and environmental hazards throughout the contest.
Reigns worked early to neutralise Fatu’s signature Tongan Death Grip, using a toolbox to target Fatu’s hand. Despite that effort, Fatu absorbed repeated Superman Punches, landed a spear of his own on Reigns, and connected with both a pop-up Samoan Drop and a moonsault without securing a pinfall. Reigns ultimately ended the match with a spear after driving Fatu’s head into an exposed turnbuckle and sending him through a table.
With the loss, Fatu is bound under Tribal Combat terms to fall in line behind Reigns and The Usos within The Bloodline hierarchy. Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Talla Tonga were present to witness the outcome, leaving the internal dynamics of the faction unsettled heading into WWE’s next major events.
