Rajasthan edge Uttarakhand 3–2 in Santosh Trophy opener

Rajasthan began their Santosh Trophy campaign with a 3–2 win over Uttarakhand on Sunday, riding on an inspired performance from captain Mukesh Choudhary in the opening match of the tournament.

Mukesh led from the front, scoring once and setting up another as Rajasthan took control despite stiff resistance from Uttarakhand. The match remained open until the final whistle, with Uttarakhand cutting the deficit late but failing to force an equaliser.

“It was important to start with a win, and the boys showed great character,” Mukesh said after the match. Rajasthan coach praised his captain, saying the team “executed the plan well under pressure.”

Uttarakhand coach admitted defensive lapses proved costly. “We competed well but small mistakes made the difference,” he said, adding the team would look to bounce back quickly.

The victory gives Rajasthan early momentum as they look to build a strong run in the Santosh Trophy.
