PCB Issues PKR 1 Crore Social Media Warning to Pakistan Players

The Pakistan Cricket Board has warned all centrally contracted players that unauthorized social media posts could result in fines of up to PKR 1 crore — a directive triggered by the Naseem Shah controversy.

Shah was fined a record PKR 20 million, roughly eight months of his central contract salary, after a post appeared on his X account questioning Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s presence at the PSL opener. The match was being played behind closed doors due to a fuel crisis.

Shah denied writing it himself. “It does not reflect my views,” he said. “I take full responsibility for my platform and have implemented the necessary changes to ensure this does not happen again.”

His social media adviser has been terminated and blacklisted by the PCB.

Shaheen Afridi was also sanctioned in a separate matter during the same PSL week. Now every player under PCB contract has been put on formal notice. Post without approval — and face a fine bigger than most people earn in a year.
