Ospreay defeats Joe, targets AEW title at Wembley

Will Ospreay advanced in the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament by defeating Samoa Joe at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Queens, New York, on May 24, 2026, and afterward declared his intention to become the face of All Elite Wrestling should he capture the AEW World Championship later this year.

The tournament victory earns Ospreay a place in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Cup, with the final scheduled for AEW Forbidden Door on June 28. The tournament winner receives an AEW World Championship match at All In, AEW’s marquee annual event, to be held at Wembley Stadium in England. Ospreay, a British wrestler who said he dreamed of performing at Wembley while growing up, started the bout by landing an OsCutter before finishing Joe with multiple Hidden Blade strikes. Speaking at the post-show media scrum, Ospreay argued that no one on the planet produces a higher standard of professional wrestling. “This is where the ‘Billy Goat’ wrestles,” he said. “I’m ready more than ever to take that top spot and to take AEW to new heights.”

On the opposite side of the men’s bracket, Swerve Strickland defeated Bandido at Double or Nothing and will face either Claudio Castagnoli or Brody King in his semifinal. Ospreay’s next opponent will be either Mark Davis or Jack Perry.
