Nagpur boxer Alfiya strikes gold at nationals
Nagpur’s Alfiya crowned a standout campaign by winning gold at the Elite National Boxing Championships on January 11, overpowering her opponent in the final to claim the top prize in her weight class. The triumph capped a composed run through the tournament and confirmed her growing stature on India’s boxing circuit.
Alfiya controlled the decisive bout from the opening bell, mixing sharp footwork with clean combinations to stay ahead on the judges’ cards across the rounds. “I trusted my preparation and stuck to the basics,” she said after the fight. “Every bout was about staying calm and executing the plan.”
Her coach hailed the performance, noting: “This medal reflects months of hard work and mental strength.” From the opposite corner, her finalist rival conceded: “She was quicker and more accurate on the day.”
The national title boosts Alfiya’s prospects for future elite camps and adds another milestone to Nagpur’s rising presence in Indian boxing.
