Mitchell ton sinks India as New Zealand level ODI series

Daryl Mitchell produced a superb century to power New Zealand to a seven-wicket victory over India in the second ODI, drawing the series level on Sunday. The tourists chased down India’s target with confidence, taking control through a dominant batting display.
India had earlier set a challenging total, built around a composed innings from KL Rahul, who steadied the hosts after early setbacks. “We felt we had something to defend,” Rahul said. “But we didn’t apply enough pressure later.”
Mitchell turned the contest on its head, pacing his knock expertly and finding boundaries at key moments. “I just wanted to stay out there and finish the job,” Mitchell said. “The conditions suited batting.”
New Zealand captain Tom Latham hailed the performance, saying: “That was a top-class innings under pressure.”
India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted his side lacked sharpness. “We let it slip in the field and with the ball,” he said.
The series now heads into a decisive final match, with both teams eyeing momentum.
