Jihan, Ayush clinch bagwrestling golds in Lucknow
Young athletes Jihan and Ayush won gold medals for Uttar Pradesh at the bagwrestling event held in Lucknow this week, underlining the state’s growing strength in the emerging combat sport.
Jihan dominated her weight category with a series of quick, decisive bouts, while Ayush followed with a composed display to top the men’s competition. Both wrestlers sealed gold after winning all their matches, giving the hosts a strong medal haul.
“I focused on technique and staying calm,” Jihan said after her final, adding that home support played a big role. Ayush credited his preparation, saying, “The training camp helped me handle tough opponents.”
Coaches praised the duo’s discipline and called the results “a big boost for bagwrestling in the state,” noting that more youngsters are taking up the sport.
