Iyer set to stay as Tilak Varma return delayed
Shreyas Iyer will remain with India’s T20I squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand, after Tilak Varma’s return was delayed due to fitness concerns, team sources confirmed on Monday. The decision was taken to maintain stability in the middle order as the team management waits for Tilak to regain full match fitness.
Iyer, who has featured consistently in recent T20Is, continues to be part of the plans. “Shreyas gives us experience and balance,” a team official said. Another source added: “Tilak is close, but we don’t want to rush him back.”
Tilak Varma has been recovering from injury and is expected to be reassessed soon. Until then, Iyer’s presence ensures continuity as India fine-tune combinations ahead of upcoming white-ball commitments.
