IPL Craze Costs Bengaluru Techie Rs 1.46 Lakh in Fake Ticket Sting

Bengaluru Techie Loses Rs 1.46 Lakh in Fake IPL Ticket Scam

A 25-year-old Bengaluru software engineer lost Rs 1.46 lakh chasing tickets to the RCB vs CSK IPL 2026 match — caught in an Instagram scam that promised VIP seats and kept demanding more.

It started simply enough. The victim contacted a seller on Instagram offering two RCB vs CSK tickets at Rs 3,700 each. Then the requests kept coming. Security deposit. Extra ID cards for friends. Food coupons. Each payment came with a new condition.

The victim transferred money from his own account. Then, after hitting his UPI limit, from his mother’s. By the time he realised, Rs 1.46 lakh was gone. The seller vanished.

Police have registered a case and investigation is underway. No arrest has been reported yet.

The match sold out weeks ago. Scammers have been exploiting the demand across social media, with police issuing warnings to fans against engaging with unofficial ticket sellers or clicking unverified links.

The RCB-CSK fixture is the hottest ticket in IPL 2026. For one fan, it came at a devastating price.
