Indian Golf Legend Vijay Kumar Dies of Cardiac Arrest at 57

Indian golf has lost one of its finest. Vijay Kumar, former Indian Open champion and four-time Order of Merit winner, passed away from a cardiac arrest at his home in Lucknow. He was 57.
Kumar turned professional in 1988 and spent the next two decades dominating Indian domestic golf. He won the Order of Merit four times — 1995-96, 1997-98, 1998-99, and 1999-2000. His crowning moment came at the 2002 Indian Open at Delhi Golf Club, where he beat more than 100 international players to win. He remains one of only nine Indians to have lifted that title.
In all, Kumar racked up more than 100 titles on the Indian circuit.
“A legend of Indian golf,” the PGTI said in a tribute. “His contributions to the sport will never be forgotten.”
