India Open 2026 to kick off BWF season

The 2026 India Open will launch the new BWF World Tour season when the Super 750 tournament takes place from January 13 to 18 in New Delhi. Top singles and doubles players are set to compete as the event again serves as a key early test in the Olympic cycle.
The tournament will offer a total prize purse of $850,000 and valuable ranking points, with leading Asian and European shuttlers expected to headline the draw. “The India Open has become one of the most competitive stops on the World Tour,” a BWF official said on the event website. “It sets the tone for the season.”
Indian players will be aiming to capitalise on home support after mixed results last year. “Playing in New Delhi always gives us extra motivation,” one national team coach noted. “The crowd makes a real difference.”
Organisers believe the event’s growing stature reflects badminton’s rise in the country. “We want to deliver world-class competition and atmosphere,” the local organising committee said, as the India Open continues to establish itself as a marquee fixture on the global calendar.
