Holder’s 4/24 Against Punjab Shows Exactly Why Good Length Is Unstoppable

Jason Holder knows the secret. And it’s the least secret secret in cricket.
Hit good length. Every ball. Don’t waver.
The Gujarat Titans seamer took 4 for 24 against Punjab Kings — and the key, according to Mitchell McClenaghan, was exactly that. “He consistently hit that hard length, right around the six-to-eight metre mark. The ball climbs onto the splice and is hard to control. He didn’t offer width either.”
Holder explained it himself. “On this wicket you just have to hit a really good length — not too short, not too full. Good length is the hardest to hit no matter the wicket, flat or placid.” His height adds bounce that makes it worse for batters. The seam movement at Ahmedabad helped too.
“Upfront we were outstanding in the powerplay,” he said after.
Discipline. Height. Good length. Twenty-four runs in four overs. Simple.
