Gavaskar: Drop Cameron Green If He Won’t Bowl for KKR

Sunil Gavaskar has delivered a blunt verdict — if Cameron Green cannot bowl for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026, KKR must replace him with a specialist batter.

Green was bought for Rs 25.20 crore as an all-rounder. But Cricket Australia has placed workload restrictions on him, and he hasn’t bowled a single delivery in two KKR outings.

The batting numbers aren’t helping either. Green scored 18 against Mumbai Indians, then was run out for 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. KKR conceded 221 and 226 in those two games.

“KKR will need to think about their combination if Cameron Green is not going to bowl,” Gavaskar said. “If he isn’t contributing with the ball, they might have to consider bringing in another specialist batter.”

KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane publicly acknowledged the gap. Green’s absence, he said, directly “disrupts KKR’s balance with the ball.”

And there is no quick fix. Cricket Australia’s restrictions are not KKR’s to override.
