Gavaskar Criticises Samson After Soft Dismissal

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar has criticised Sanju Samson following his dismissal in India’s fourth T20I against New Zealand, questioning the wicketkeeper-batter’s footwork at a crucial moment of the match. The incident occurred on Monday as India looked to build momentum in the series.
Samson got out attempting an aggressive shot but was undone by poor balance, prompting sharp words from Gavaskar on commentary. “That was unnecessary,” Gavaskar said. “If your footwork doesn’t take you to the pitch of the ball, you will keep getting into trouble.”
The former India captain stressed that Samson’s talent is not in doubt. “He has all the shots,” Gavaskar added. “But at this level, decision-making and footwork are everything.”
Samson’s dismissal stalled India’s innings briefly before the lower order recovered. A team source later said the coaching staff would review the shot selection. “These are learning moments,” the source noted.
With the T20 World Cup approaching, Samson remains under scrutiny as competition for middle-order spots intensifies.
