Ex-ICC Umpire Says Raghuvanshi Was Not Out — And He Has a Point

One of IPL 2026’s most controversial dismissals just got more complicated.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi was ruled out obstructing the field against LSG after a return throw from Mohammed Shami struck him on the pads as he scrambled back to his crease. Third umpire Rohan Pandit gave it out. Raghuvanshi smashed the boundary cushion with his bat in fury and was fined 20% of his match fee for it.
But former ICC Elite Panel umpire Anil Chaudhary looked at the footage and called it differently: not out. His assessment — the batter didn’t deliberately change direction, and the contact was incidental rather than intentional obstruction.
ESPNcricinfo backed the original call. The debate hasn’t died down. And with Kartik Tyagi’s two waist-high full tosses in the same match also going unpunished, the umpiring standards of that evening are under a very uncomfortable spotlight.
