Dewald Brevis Sits Out as PBKS Win Toss, Bowl First vs CSK

Dewald Brevis was a notable absentee when Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings named their IPL 2026 XIs on April 3 in Chennai, with the South African batter sidelined by a lingering side strain.
Brevis had nets before the game but could only face throw-downs and was restricted to defending the ball — a clear sign he wasn’t fit. CSK expect him to miss two to three more fixtures.
CSK started with: Sanju Samson (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma, Prashant Veer, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Matt Henry, Khaleel Ahmed.
Punjab lined up with: Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (c), Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.
Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl. “Priyansh and Prab doing the job at the top — the way they’ve been batting, it’s phenomenal,” he said after the game.
Rahane had earlier noted that Green’s absence “disrupts KKR’s balance” — a reminder that injury and workload concerns are reshaping IPL XIs across the board this season.
