Delhi Capitals skipper Rodrigues fined for slow over-rate

Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during a Women’s Premier League 2026 match, the league confirmed on Tuesday. The sanction followed Delhi’s recent clash in the ongoing WPL, where the team failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time.
According to the league’s code of conduct, Rodrigues was penalised as the Capitals were found to be one over short after allowances. The offence came in a tightly contested match that went down to the final overs, adding pressure on the fielding side.
“We accept the decision and will be more mindful going forward,” a Delhi Capitals team source said. Rodrigues echoed the sentiment, stating that “in high-intensity games, margins are tight, but discipline is non-negotiable.”
A former India cricketer, speaking to local media, noted that “slow over-rates can hurt teams later in the tournament, especially with repeat offences.”
Despite the fine, Delhi remain firmly in the playoff race as the WPL enters a crucial phase.
