De Villiers urges Dhoni to bat higher in IPL 2026

AB de Villiers has called on MS Dhoni to move up the order for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, warning that the veteran could risk his place if he continues batting too low in the lineup.
The former South Africa star questioned CSK’s use of Dhoni late in innings, despite his proven finishing ability and vast experience. Dhoni, who struck at over 180 in brief cameos last season, often faced limited deliveries.
“Dhoni should bat higher, no doubt,” De Villiers said on his channel. “If he’s fit and playing, he must have more impact.”
He added: “You can’t keep a player like that so low. Either use him properly or rethink the combination.”
A CSK insider responded: “Dhoni’s role is strategic, not just about runs.”
With IPL 2026 approaching, Dhoni’s batting position could again shape CSK’s balance and late-game firepower.
