Charles Barkley Criticizes Jalen Duren’s Rebounding Ahead of Pistons-Cavaliers NBA Playoff Game
Charles Barkley, a Hall of Fame NBA player and panelist on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” offered pointed criticism of Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren during a pre-game discussion ahead of the team’s matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of their NBA playoff series.
Barkley emphasized that Duren’s primary contributions come from offensive rebounds and lob dunks set up by teammate Cade Cunningham. He stated that Duren should never record as few as two rebounds in a game, describing it as unacceptable for a player of his talent.[1][3]
Barkley added that the young center needs to develop a mid-range jump shot but predicted Duren will improve and become an All-Star.[1][3]
Jalen Duren, an American center for the Detroit Pistons, was selected 13th overall in the 2022 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded to Detroit on draft night.[2][4]
In the 2023-24 season, Duren averaged 13.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game over 76 appearances.[2][4]
Cade Cunningham, the Pistons’ guard, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft and has been a key playmaker for Detroit.[2]
