Chapman Praises Abhishek as New Zealand Study India Powerplay

New Zealand batter Mark Chapman praised India opener Abhishek Sharma after India’s dominant T20I performance against the Black Caps, saying the youngster’s aggressive approach is built on “clear thinking”. The match was played this week during India’s home T20 series against New Zealand as both teams prepare for the T20 World Cup.

Abhishek’s fearless powerplay batting put New Zealand under early pressure, forcing the visitors to reassess their bowling plans. India’s openers attacked from the start, scoring quickly and setting the tone for the innings.

“There’s thought behind the power,” Chapman said, noting that Abhishek chooses his shots rather than swinging blindly. He added that New Zealand are closely analysing India’s intent to improve their own powerplay execution. The series, Chapman said, is a valuable learning phase for the Black Caps ahead of the World Cup.
