Bumrah overtakes Malinga in T20 World Cup wickets list

Jasprit Bumrah became the most successful fast bowler in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history after surpassing Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga during India’s match in the 2026 tournament. The milestone came as Bumrah’s disciplined spell helped India control the game and underline his importance in the squad.

The Indian pacer reached the record with another precise bowling performance, relying on his trademark yorkers and variations that have troubled batters throughout the competition. The achievement moved him past Malinga, who previously held the benchmark for fast bowlers in the tournament.

“It feels great to contribute to the team in such a big event,” Bumrah said after the match. “Records are special, but winning games for India matters the most.”

India captain Rohit Sharma praised the bowler’s consistency. “Bumrah is a match-winner. When he has the ball, we always feel in control,” he said.

Former Sri Lanka star Lasith Malinga earlier called Bumrah “one of the finest bowlers in modern T20 cricket,” highlighting the Indian’s growing legacy on the world stage.
