BCCI reacts after Sunrisers sign Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed

The BCCI clarified on Friday it has no role in Sunrisers Leeds signing Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed for The Hundred, saying the deal lies outside the board’s jurisdiction. The move sparked debate as the franchise is linked to IPL owners.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla stressed the board cannot intervene. “It is not in our domain. They have taken the player for a foreign league, and we cannot do anything about it,” he said.
Sunrisers officials defended the decision as purely cricket-based. “We were looking for the best spin option available,” a team source said.
Abrar’s £190,000 contract makes him the first Pakistani cricketer to represent an Indian-owned franchise in The Hundred, triggering strong reactions among fans.
