BCCI plans contract revamp, Kohli and Rohit set to drop tier

The BCCI is preparing a major overhaul of its central contracts, with plans to scrap the traditional A+ category, a move that could see senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shifted to a lower tier. The proposal is being discussed ahead of the next contract cycle.
The change is aimed at aligning pay structures more closely with current formats and player availability. A BCCI source said the board wants contracts to “reflect present-day contributions rather than past reputation.”
Kohli and Rohit, who have stepped away from some formats, are still expected to retain central contracts but without top-tier status. The overhaul is also designed to reward emerging all-format players as India reshapes its future core.
