Arshiya Das makes history as first WIM

Fifteen-year-old Arshiya Das has become the first Woman International Master from India’s Northeast, securing the FIDE title after achieving the required norms and rating in recent tournaments.

“It feels unreal and inspiring,” Arshiya said, thanking her coaches and family for their backing.

Chess officials called the feat “a landmark moment for the region,” noting her success broadens India’s talent map.

At just 15, Das has not only earned an international title but also put the Northeast firmly on the country’s chess radar.
